Revelation 21 (CSB)
Amillennialism: the millennium is symbolic of the present age of the church between Christ’s first and second coming
Postmillennialism: Christ will return in the future after a golden age of righteousness and renewal on Earth
Premillennialism: Christ will return before a literal 1,000-year earthly reign
Jesus will return in power to put an end to evil and redeem his followers
Christian hope is not rooted in escaping earth, but living in expectation for God to renew it
Christian escapism: the use of religious beliefs to avoid confronting difficult realities by focusing solely on a future afterlife
Withdraw from mission
Passive towards injustice
Disengaged with culture
Distorted view of God
God doesn’t abandon creation — he moves in.
When the world is renewed, heaven isn’t the only thing left
God doesn’t want us to get out, he wants to get in
God makes all things new, not all new things
Every inch of God’s new world will be his home
Live like a citizen of the New Jerusalem now
Live as a prophetic sign of things to come
