Spiritual gifts - supernatural abilities and talents given by God to His people

Purpose of spiritual gifts - so the people of God can do the things of God

Prophecy (noun) - words from God that are spoken

Prophesy (verb) - the act of speaking them

1 Corinthians 14:3

Prophecy (broad definition) - anything that strengthens, encourages and/or comforts

Prophecy (focused definition) - when a person speaks to another person or group under the direction of the Holy Spirit in a way that strengthens, encourages or comforts

Prophecy (focused) is spoken with power, authority and conviction

OT Prophecy: Fore-telling

NT Prophecy: Forth-telling

Prophecy means seeing what God is doing in a situation and calling it out.
